Edit content page not functioning/responding

I am trying to update our News page to our site. I have done so several times but this week something is happening when I try to edit our news page. The key strokes seem to take forever to make something happen, the icons don't function when I click them, and for some reason there is considerable white space at the bottom of our news which I can't seem to figure out how to delete it.

   For some reason that page has dozens of extra paragraphs which are empty. I just removed them for you. If you see this in the future, switch to the HTML code view by clicking the HTML button on the second row of the toolbar in the editor. Once you're in code view, you can highlight and delete all of the extra paragraph tags.

   You can also place your cursor at the bottom of the page in the editor and backspace or delete all of the extra white space.
